Atocha Discovers Three New Mineralized Zones on McGillivray Property, BC

August 3, 2011 - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA – Atocha Resources (the Company), TSX.V – ATT reports the results of the third phase of exploration carried out in May 2011 on its McGillivray Copper-Gold Property.    Exploration consisted of geological mapping, prospecting and rock sampling.

Three new, northwest trending mineralized zones hosted in an intermediate andesitic to a felsic rhyolitic volcanic sequence were located.   The new zones are located to the east of the Fraser Fault system and to the west of the suture-thrust fault structure.   Adjacent to the Fraser Fault an iron-carbonate breccia (dolomite or ankerite) horizon is hosted in andesitic rocks intruded by a mineralized, dioritic stock with copper mineralization found as occasional stringers and breccia fragments of malachite-azurite mineralization.

One of the new mineralized zones, a highly altered siliceous, rhyolite to dacitic unit carrying abundant finely disseminated pyrite, is located 2-300 metres to the east of the Alice Minfile occurrence.  The zone is traceable down slope for over 500 metres.   The second zone is 300 metres further to the east, adjacent to an accretionary or suture structure consisting of a quartz-muscovite, pyrite bearing, strata-bound zone hosted in siliceous / silicified rhyolitic rocks.   The zone is 60-100 metres wide and is traceable for 1500 metres.

The third mineralized zone is an iron carbonate breccia which hosts some of the highest silver-copper-zinc values found on the property.   Seven (7) of the 10 rock samples from the breccia, were highly anomalous with high values of 4.7% copper, 31.5 ppm silver and 4,411 ppm zinc.  These values were from samples collected from an old adit.   Associated with the anomalous values are anomalous pathfinder elements including arsenic >1000 ppm and antimony up to 2,375 ppm.

The sampling carried out was a reconnaissance sampling program.   The results merit detailed follow-up exploration to define an extension of the iron carbonate breccia and greisen mineralized structures.
